The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports was allocated funds for the employment of persons with disabilities based on the Public Call for granting financial incentives for the employment of persons with disabilities in 2024, which is awarded by the Fund for Professional Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities. Therefore, Edna Šunjić, the winner of the gold medal at the Olympics, member of the Council of Sportsmen of the European Special Olympics, will soon join the team of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports.
On this occasion, the contract was signed today by the Federal Minister of Culture and Sports, Sanja Vlaisavljević, and the Director of the Fund for Professional Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities, Ahmed Baljić.
“This is the first time in the history of FBiH that a ministry has shown the initiative and desire to employ people with disabilities! It really is a precedent, and I express my respect and gratitude to Minister Vlaisavljević and the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports for recognising the importance of the including people with disabilities in the working environment, because this issue is talked about a lot, but in practice almost nothing is done,” said director Baljić.
Minister Vlaisavljević did not hide her satisfaction that the athlete Edna, who recently visited the Ministry and spoke about her many hobbies, but also her desire to work and contribute to the community, will join the team of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports.
“Edna practices table tennis, swimming and skiing, and with her positive spirit, persistence and fighting spirit she defies the many challenges that people with Down syndrome encounter on a daily basis. We are happy that this fighting girl will become a part of our team and we will do our best to make her daily work pleasant and beautiful. I want to believe that the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports will be a role-model to other institutions and that they will also use the opportunity they have, and give people with disabilities the opportunity to feel respected and equal members of society, because this is the least we can do for them,” Minister Vlaisavljević concluded.
The Minister added that she wanted to encourage everyone else to enable equal life in the community and the right to work for people with disabilities.
