A meeting was held today at the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports with the delegation of the Royal Tennis Club Barcelona 1899, which consisted of Berta Tintore, daughter of the late Juan Maria Tintore, and Javier Cortadellas, a member of the Club’s Board. The meeting was also attended by Zehra Obarčanin, director of the tournament Open RTC Barcelona 1899-Sarajevo 2026 and Haris Kafedžić, member of the Board of Directors of TK Tennis Pro 1996, while Merima Djerekarac, Anita Vlašić and Marko Komšić participated on behalf of the Ministry.
The meeting discussed the importance of the jubilee 30th edition of the international junior tournament “Open RCT Barcelona 1899-Sarajevo 2026”, which this year brought together more than 90 young tennis players from 25 countries. The representatives of the Ministry congratulated the organizers on the great jubilee and thanked them for making Sarajevo a part of the world tennis scene for three decades, bringing young athletes from all over the world.
It was especially emphasized that it was Juan Maria Tintore, the long-time president of RCT Barcelona 1899, who initiated the launch of this tournament in Sarajevo thirty years ago. His vision and support were key to the return of children to the tennis courts after the war, and the tournament has since grown into a prestigious sporting event with an international reputation.
It was concluded that the tournament, thanks to its tradition and international character, remains an important sports manifestation that connects Sarajevo with the European and world tennis scene. Representatives of the Ministry expressed their conviction that, in the coming years, this event would continue to bring together young talents from around the world and contribute to establishing the city as a place of sport, encounters, and friendship.
