The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports organised on 15 January 2024 a meeting between Minister Sanja Vlaisavljević and prominent BiH athlete, former European senior judo champion, multiple medal winner on the European and world scene, Amel Mekić.

The topic of the meeting was the resolution of the status of deserving sportsmen in the Federation of BiH. With this aim, the Draft Law on Life-long Monthly Compensation for Deserving Sportsmen in the Federation of BiH has already been submitted.

The Draft Law was adopted by the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, but unfortunately, it has not been adopted yet by the House of Peoples of the Federation of BiH, which, as Minister Vlaisavljević pointed out, is necessary to do as soon as possible so that excellent athletes who have achieved top results and present Bosnia and Herzegovina in the best way, may be adequately rewarded. That would, as Minister Vlaisavljević emphasised, also motivate young, promising athletes to achieve top results.

Amel Mekić is one of the sportsmen who achieved great success through his long sports career. Mekić emphasised the importance of resolving the status of deserving sportsmen in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the same way as it was regulated in many European countries. Unfortunately, some sportsmen, who did a lot to present Bosnia and Herzegovina in the world in the past in the best possible way, did not see the outcome of this story.

Minister Vlaisavljević has already organised a meeting with representatives of the Coordination Body of Deserving Sportsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the same goal.
