The Institute for Monuments’ Protection, within the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, has been providing professional and technical assistance in various ways for the implementation of conservation-restoration and rehabilitation projects at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years.

Currently, the construction project of the Ars Aevi museum is being realized on the neighboring plot. Although monitoring the construction of this facility is not within the authority of the Institute, a representative of the Institute was present at the opening of construction works. On this occasion, the participants in the construction were drawn to the possible danger of the Museum building, and increased attention was demanded during the execution of the works with the aim of reducing the risk to a minimum, as well as the mandatory recording of the found condition with the setting of reference points to monitor the reaction of the object during the execution of the works.

The Institute for Monuments’ Protection has been involved in monitoring the execution of works on the Ars Aevi building and will participate in regular weekly meetings at the construction site in order to continuously monitor the behavior of the building of the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the execution of works, with the aim of reducing potential risks to a minimum.

At the weekly meeting, held on 9 September 2026, it was established that the works are proceeding according to the agreed dynamics. After the partial damage to the facade at the very beginning of the works, there is no new damage or movement in the building of the History Museum. Potential technical issues have arisen during the construction of the protective pit wall located along the western side of the Historical Museum’s courtyard fence; these will be resolved in the coming period through the collaboration of all stakeholders.
