The Media Center of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese invites students to apply for the two-day educational and creative camp “Heritage Knows No Borders – Young Guardians of Heritage,” which will take place in Sarajevo at the end of October. The camp is intended for young people who wish to learn about cultural and historical heritage, explore its various layers and stories, and—through their own ideas and creative work—reflect on how to bring heritage closer to their own generation.

Thirty young people will participate in the camp, with special emphasis placed on including students of various ages and young people with disabilities. Participants will work in mixed teams, engaging in research-based, creative, and interactive activities.

APPLICATION ESSAY TOPIC

“If it were to disappear tomorrow—what would I preserve from my local community, and why?”

To apply, candidates must write a short original essay on the specified topic. The essay should be no longer than 500 words.

In the essay, the candidate should select a specific example of cultural or historical heritage from their local community, family, or daily life and explain:

• what the chosen example is and why they consider it important
• what would be lost if that example were to disappear
• what currently threatens its preservation
• how they would bring it closer to young people of their generation.

The essay must be original and based on the candidate’s own reflections, observations, and personal connection to the heritage. There is no need to write a standard essay or use general definitions of cultural heritage. Preference will be given to submissions that present a concrete example, a personal perspective, and an original idea.

We invite schools to identify and nominate students who are curious, creative, interested in their local community, and ready to view heritage from their own perspective.
