The woodcarving in Konjic is an artistic craft with a tradition that goes back more than a century. Travelogues from the late 19th century mention beautiful wood carvings in the Konjic region, which testify to the talent of local woodcarvers and their coexistence with nature, which is particularly rich in forests and high-quality wood. Since then, woodcarving has been developing in different periods in terms of scope and method of practicing this craft. One thing is certain: woodcarving has become an integral part of the culture of the local community, a measure of the beauty and comfort of domestic interiors.

With the skilful hands of talented woodcarvers, characteristic floral motifs are imprinted on small decorative objects for the house and pieces of furniture, creating a recognizable visual identity. Interiors designed in this way have been accepted not only by the local community, but also in homes across the country, as well as by emigrant communities. This has given the traditional craft of Konjic woodcarving the role of a link in interethnic and interreligious dialogue.

Equestrian woodcarving was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017.
