On Monday, 7 April 2025, the Third Meeting of the Advisory Council for the Implementation of the Extended Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe on the Establishment of Cultural Routes for Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Sarajevo. The meeting was attended by: Dragana Elez Trifković, Aleksandra Sorajić, Dragana Vujanović, Vinko Šarac, Milica Kotur, Merima Hajdarbegović, Selma Bašić-Čerkezović, Amira Salić-Bezdrob, Fatima Jalčin and Nusret Čolo, a member of the Council on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports and Deputy President of the Council.
The meeting was opened by the President of the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragana Elez Trifković from the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then the members of the Council unanimously accepted the Minutes from the previous meeting, which was of a consultative nature due to the lack of a quorum.
The meeting attendants discussed the criteria of a potential route or routes that should be mutually agreed upon, so that an application for membership could be submitted as soon as possible. The following routes were suggested:
● Stećci – the medieval tombstones as a part of the European Route of Megalithic Culture at the suggestion of Milica Kotur, since stećci as a megalithic phenomenon belong to that culture;
● Medieval royal cities at the suggestion of Nusret Čolo, where a new cultural route could potentially be established, which would be favourable for joining of Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia. This new potential route will be presented at the next meeting of the Council.
● Joining the Transhumation Route in the form of katuns and katunar cattle-breeding population on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the suggestion of Vinko Šarac. This route is suitable for the joining of Serbia and Montenegro, where katunar cattle-breeding is also represented.
● Joining the European Liberation Route at the suggestion of Selma Bašić-Čerkezović. The Museum of North-eastern Bosnia in Tuzla has been proposed as the operator of this route.
● TRANSROMANICA – Route of Romanesque European Heritage at the suggestion of Aleksandra Sorajić;
● The route of historic cafes at the suggestion of Aleksandra Sorajić;
Furthermore, it was concluded at the meeting, that it was necessary to check the stage of the nomination of the Banja Luka-Laktaši thermal spas as part of the European Route of Historic Thermal Towns (EHHTA), for which the nomination had been submitted to the Council of Europe long ago, but without any feedback received.
It was also agreed to check the criteria for the European Industrial Heritage Route and the Via Habsburg Route.
At the end of the meeting, it was concluded that it was necessary to check all the criteria for the previously proposed routes, after which the Council would continue its work on potentially nominated cultural routes at its next meeting, scheduled for 17 May 2025.
