Professional Conservator’s Supervision of Works at the Gazi Husrev-beg Hanikah

Professional conservator’s supervision of works on the Gazi Husrev-beg Hanikah in Sarajevo was carried out on June 14, 2026, with the aim of reviewing the progress of activities on this significant monument of cultural and historical heritage.

During the inspection, it was established that works on the walls and floors of the interior rooms have been fully completed. Of particular importance is the intervention on the transverse wall in the original part of the building, where the wall was uncovered and conserved, thereby revealing the stratification of different materials and construction phases in the creation and development of the structure. In addition, side display cases for museum exhibits have been produced and installed, with appropriate lighting provided.

It was confirmed that all works to date have been executed in accordance with the project documentation and the issued approvals for construction.

In the largest room of the hanikah – the semahana, located in the western wing of the building, restoration and conservation works are planned on the decorative elements of the ceiling and corners of the room. The mihrab located on the southern wall of this room has been assessed as well preserved.

In the upcoming period, conservation and restoration works are also planned on the richly decorated southern entrance portal, as well as the replacement of the damaged roof covering – tiles.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports continues to provide support to projects of protection, preservation, and presentation of cultural and historical heritage, with the aim of ensuring its permanent safeguarding for future generations.
