The opening ceremony of the International Open Championship and the 22nd Sports Games, organized by the Association of Paraplegics and Polio Survivors of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, took place today in the beautiful setting of the “Safet Zajko” Center for Education, Sport, and Recreation in Sarajevo. Marko Komšić attended this significant sporting and social event on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports.

This year’s edition of the traditional games brought together around one hundred competitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Slovenia. Over the course of the three-day championship, athletes will compete in various disciplines—including wheelchair racing, throwing events, and chess—demonstrating remarkable strength of spirit, athletic skill, and dedication.

The presence of the Ministry representative reflects ongoing support for projects that promote inclusion, equality, and the development of sports for persons with disabilities in the Federation of BiH. By supporting such events, the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports recognizes the importance of sport as a key tool for boosting self-confidence, maintaining mental and physical health, and ensuring the full social integration of all citizens.

The games at the “Safet Zajko” Center will run until September 12; we wish all participants and competitors the best of luck, new friendships, and outstanding results.
