Institute for the Monuments’ Protection: Report on the conducted professional supervision of the restoration and conservation works on the facade of the “National Government II” building

On 22 April 2026, a coordination meeting was held at which issues of carrying out restoration and conservation works on the facade were discussed. An inspection of the state of the works determined that, due to favorable weather conditions, the works were being carried out without interruption, in accordance with the planned dynamics, project documentation and professional rules.

In the previous period, work continued on preparing the northern facade for painting, including sanding and finishing decorative medallions. Restoration works were carried out on the medallions on the western facade and work continued on the northwest corner of the facade. An analysis of the condition of the plaster on the central part of the western facade was also conducted.

After the inspection of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments on the western facade, a high degree of damage to the central part of the facade was noted, greater than foreseen in the design, and the contractor is expected to submit a final assessment and proposal for further rehabilitation measures by the next meeting.

The choice of paint has been narrowed down to one sample of the basic paint, and the Institute is expected to issue a statement on the final selection in the near future. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Sarajevo Canton, who requested a catalog of possible masks for existing air conditioners from the manufacturer, and will submit proposals for variants by the next meeting, so that the Institute representatives can select the most acceptable solution for the facility.
