30 April – International Jazz Day

Jazz is not just music. It is a way of life, a way of thinking, freedom.
Nina Simone

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports joins in marking International Jazz Day, which is celebrated every year on April 30 under the auspices of UNESCO. This day is dedicated to the artistic expression that emerged from the freedom of improvisation and has become the universal language of dialogue between cultures.

Jazz is music that combines different traditions, opens up space for creativity and fosters a spirit of togetherness. Its strength lies in improvisation – the moment when the artist connects with the audience through rhythm, melody and emotion. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, jazz has a long and rich tradition, and numerous festivals, concerts and music schools testify to its vitality and importance in cultural life.
International Jazz Day is an opportunity to recognize all musicians, composers and lovers of this art form who contribute to cultural diversity and promote the values of tolerance and dialogue with their work. The Ministry emphasizes that jazz, like other art forms, has the power to connect people and inspire new generations.

We invite citizens to mark this day with music – by going to a concert, listening to their favorite jazz performances, or simply sharing a moment of freedom through sound. Because jazz reminds us that culture is not static but alive and always open to new interpretations.

In jazz, there are no mistakes, only opportunities.
