TheInternational Roma Day was celebrated on 8 April 2025 in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event was attended on behalf of the Ministry by Marko Francešević, an employee of the Culture Division.
As the most numerous national minority in BiH, Roma face various challenges on the way to strengthening inclusion and protecting the rights of their community.
A special emphasis of the event was on young Roma men and women and their education. Accordingly, at the very beginning, after the national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Roma national anthem, the audience was addressed by a young Roma woman, a high school student with excellent results, who spoke about the successes of Roma children, but also about the difficulties that young Roma faced on their thorny path of education.
In the continuation of the event, presentations were given by numerous representatives of key institutions and organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, international and diplomatic missions, and organisations dealing with Roma rights issues.
The conclusion was made that in the past period a lot had been done when it came to the inclusion and improvement of the position of Roma in our society, which, as ti was pointed out, was also evidenced by statistical data. However, this should only be an encouraging start in the continuation of the struggle of the Roma community for a better, fairer and completely equal position in society.
