In the village of Liješeva, near Visoko, the skill of shaping clay vessels on a hand wheel has been preserved for many decades. A distinctive feature of this old craft is the hand-made pottery wheel on which objects are made, because this form of pottery wheel was present even in prehistoric times.

The first written trace of the tradition of pottery in Bosnia and Herzegovina was recorded in 1600. Since then, pottery has been suppressed, it has lost its market with arrival of other products, and today only a few people practice this old craft.

In Liješeva, the tradition of using a hand wheel to make clay objects has been preserved to this day, which is characterized by a rougher workmanship, a rustic appearance and the purpose of using it to cook food directly on the hearth fire.

The historical development of pottery in Liješeva is closely related to the existence of exceptionally high-quality clay in the immediate vicinity of Liješeva, which even today provides quality material for the production of long-lasting clay objects.
