Institute for the Protection of Monuments: Monitoring the Kučarin Necropolis in the Village of Hrančići, City of Goražde

On 22 May 2026, the professional staff of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments conducted a monitoring of the Kučarin necropolis of stećak tombstones in the village of Hrančići, which administratively belongs to the City of Goražde.

The aim of the monitoring was to determine the current state of the necropolis and identify risks. The necropolis is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List: “Stećak – Medieval Tombstones”. The necropolis has 325 stećak tombstones that are on privately owned land. Data on the management of the necropolis, problems, completed and planned activities were presented by the location manager – Admir Džemidžić, archaeologist. The need for a joint meeting of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments, the City of Goražde and the location manager was agreed.
