ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) held its 34th General Assembly from 10 to 12 December 2025 in Rome, Italy. The General Assembly was also attended by Ms. Lamija Abdijević, M.Sc. Arch., an employee of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments within the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports.
As ICCROM’s highest governing body, the General Assembly at its 34th session presented the progress achieved since the previous meeting, set institutional priorities, and strengthened collective efforts to address the most urgent challenges facing cultural heritage worldwide – reinforcing support for professionals and communities on the front lines of preservation.
A key highlight of the Assembly was the presentation of ICCROM’s Strategic Plan for the period 2026–2031, which sets a six‑year course through a rapidly changing world. Guided by the motto CARE (Conserve, Activate, Recognize), the Strategic Plan affirms heritage as a living resource that strengthens communities, supports resilience, promotes sustainability, and enriches human well‑being.
“Our heritage is not a luxury – it is salvation,” stated Aruna Francesca Maria Gujral, Director‑General of ICCROM. “It connects generations, fosters peace, social cohesion, resilience, and development. In a world of uncertainty, it is our anchor, illuminating our deepest sense of belonging and care.”
