The Promenade of Culture was today a display of some posters from the exhibition of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments titled “Building Heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Wealth – Destruction – Restoration”, in memory of the destruction of cultural heritage during the war.
The exhibition was prepared in 1997 by current and former employees of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments, which operates within the Ministry, with the goal to record and show the devastation of numerous national monuments that were restored almost three decades later. Experts from the Institute for the Protection of Monuments took part in the restoration.
“Here we are on the Promenade again! I am glad that today we have a slightly different presentation than usually, but with this great setting of our Institute for the Protection of Monuments, I am convinced that you will have something to see…” minister Sanja Vlaisavljević said at the very beginning, welcoming the guests in front of the Ministry.
Azra Lojo Hajro, Head of the Institute’s Scientific and Research Department, spoke about the exhibition, pointing out that only a small part of the exhibition, which was presented for the first time at the Days of European Heritage event in 1997, was presented today: “On the Promenade, we present only a small part of the exhibition from the Archive of the Institute in order to draw attention to the wealth of cultural heritage, its devastation and the 30-year period of reconstruction. We want to join the beautiful date, marking the 20th anniversary of the restoration of the Old Bridge, and part of the Exhibition is dedicated to Mostar. There are also other towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as Bihać, Počitelj, Žitomislić, Fojnica…” stressed Lojo Hajro and invited everyone to see the exhibition that testifies to the difficult period.
Given that heritage is not only material and architectural, but that it also consists of intangible heritage, nurturing traditions and customs, coffee and traditional sweets were served today in front of the Ministry, which have been a special treat since ancient times and a kind of way of connecting people, paths, connections and the network, which is also the theme of this year’s Days of European Heritage.
