23 April – the World Book and Copyright Day

I simply call it a book… because what could the pathos of adjectives and the puffiness of epithets do in the face of that thing without measure, in the face of that splendour without calculation – Bruno Schulz

Be it picture-books, textbooks and holy books or the literature we read later in life, books educate us, enrich us and directly or indirectly change us all the time.

The World Book and Copyright Day has been celebrated every 23 April since 1995, when the UNESCO General Conference, held in Paris, paid tribute to books and authors from all over the world.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the World Book and Copyright Day has been celebrated since 2016 by special programmes organised by cultural institutions, non-governmental sectors and publishing houses.

The National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina organises the Open Doors Day today to which all interested parties are invited to visit and register as members of the Library free of charge. Even more so, all visitors will receive a book of their choice.

The World Book and Copyright Day will also be marked by the “Nova Svjetlost” Cultural Association with a programme featuring writers and artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad at the “AMI” Gallery beginning at 6:00 p.m.
