18 May – International Museum Day

Museums are bridges between the past and the future – places where memory turns into the power of community.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports joins the celebration of International Museum Day, which is celebrated every year on May 18 under the auspices of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This year’s theme is “Museums unite a divided world” and emphasizes the role of museums as a space for dialogue, understanding and connecting different communities.

Museums, loyal guardians of objects and documents, are dynamic institutions that shape identity, encourage creativity and create bridges between generations. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, numerous museums mark this day with special programs: from educational workshops and curatorial tours, through film screenings and book promotions, to international exhibitions that connect local and world heritage.

International Museum Day, established in 1977, today brings together more than 37,000 museums in over 150 countries. This confirms its global importance and the strength of cultural cooperation.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports invites citizens to visit museums, participate in programs and discover the wealth of cultural heritage that connects and empowers us.
