Minister Vlaisavljević at the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition “Gabriel Jurkić – Hommage to Beauty, In Memoriam 1974 – 2024.”

The exhibition under the title “Gabriel Jurkić – Homage to Beauty, In Memoriam 1974 – 2024” was opened last night in the Franciscan Museum and Gallery in Gorica – Livno on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of the great Croatian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian painter Gabriel Jurkić, born in Livno, who lived and worked in the Franciscan monastery in Livno from 1956 to 1974.

Numerous guests from social and cultural milieu, art lovers and admirers of Jurkić’s work gathered at the opening of the exhibition.

The Federal Minister of Culture and Sports addressed the guests.

“But one thing is complete and unquestionable, that each of us who comes from somewhere in the Livno region and has previously seen and enjoyed Jurkić’s paintings, landscapes of indescribable beauty and harmony – that beauty and that harmony that Jurkić’s brush recognizes as a Divine work that only needs to be repeated in outlines – everything he sees here, he sees with the eyes of the immortal painter.

To look at Jurkić’s paintings means never to look at the world as before, no matter how we used to do it,” said, among other things, Minister Vlaisavljević in an inspired speech.

After the official opening, the guests viewed the exhibition where some of Jurkić’s best works of art were presented, including the anthology painting “In the mountains” from 1922.

Visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to see previously unpresented paintings by this artist, collected from private collectors from the USA, Croatia and BiH. The exhibition can be viewed until 28 July 2024.
