Zenica on the Promenade of Culture: The Heart of Central Bosnia Beats in Sarajevo

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports hosted the Town of Zenica on the Promenade of Culture as part of the international event ” Days of European Heritage 2025″. This event transformed the Promenade on the first day of October into a vibrant stage of cultural diversity, tradition and togetherness.

The programme was officially opened with greetings by the moderator Kenan Hodžić and an address by Minister Sanja Vlaisavljević, after which visitors had the opportunity to get to know Zenica through a rich cultural and artistic content. Assistant Mayor of Zenica, Sumea Mujkanović, presented Zenica as a strong cultural centre that was cherishing heritage, but also opening space for young people and creative initiatives.

A particularly emotional moment followed with the performance of the song “Nad Zenicom nebo se pali” (The Sky is Burning Above Zenica) interpreted by the young artist Emran Music, which the people of Zenica perceived as an informal anthem of their town.

The Zenica City Museum and the City Library presented an exhibition of postcards and books entitled “Zenica Then and Now”, while the interactive game “Let’s Play the Middle Ages” invited visitors to step back in time for a moment. The folklore ensemble “Bosniafolk”, which had been nurturing the traditions of the peoples of BiH for 20 years, delighted the visitors with a show of folk costumes from the Zenica area and a mix of dances from Central Bosnia, Sarajevo and the Zenica region.

The Women’s Association “Stijene” Klopče showed how tradition was passed on through handicrafts, homemade products and a shared spirit. Their exhibition of knitting, decoupage, juices and sweets was a real corner of the warmth and taste of Zenica, where visitors had the opportunity to taste sweets and other homemade specialties lovingly prepared by the Association’s members.

The evening was rounded off with a concert by the young Zenica band “Diverso” and solo player Emran Music, who filled the atmosphere with the sounds of sevdah and modern interpretations of musical heritage.

Zenica left a mark of heart, song and hospitality in Sarajevo – inviting everyone to visit it and experience its story first hand.
