The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports joins in marking World Obesity Day, on 4 March, emphasizing the importance of sport and recreation in preserving health and preventing overweight.
Obesity is a global challenge that affects all age groups, and according to data from the World Health Organization, the number of people with obesity has more than doubled since 1990. Of particular concern is the fact that in Europe every fourth child has excess body weight or obesity, which indicates the need to strengthen the culture of movement from the earliest years.
Sport is certainly the most natural form of prevention. Regular physical activity contributes to heart health, strengthening muscles and bones, reducing stress and developing positive life habits. Sport should not be understood only in a competitive sense, but also as recreation, socializing and building community.
That is why the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports is continuously working to promote sports values, support sports organizations and create conditions in which all citizens have the opportunity for an active life.
We invite citizens to mark World Obesity Day with movement – walking, running, cycling, recreational training or any activity that brings joy and health. We emphasize that physical activity should not be tied to just one date, but should become a daily habit and part of the culture of living.
The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports will continue to act in the direction of strengthening sports and movement culture, with the aim of creating a society in which health, culture and sports form an inseparable whole.
