World Mountaineering Day

A good mountaineer should first and foremost be a good person.

(Igor Eterović)

March 7 is celebrated all over the world as World Mountaineering Day, dedicated to lovers of nature, healthy living and mountain beauty. This day reminds us of the importance of mountaineering as an activity that connects people with nature, strengthens physical and mental health, and encourages togetherness and solidarity.

Mountaineering as a form of recreation contributes to the preservation of natural heritage, the promotion of ecological awareness and cultural connections. Our mountains, rich in diverse landscapes and traditions, deserve attention and care so that they remain a safe haven for future generations.

World Mountaineering Day is therefore an opportunity to remind ourselves of the values that mountains bring to our society – from natural beauty to cultural identity, and to preserve them as a lasting heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports will proudly continue to support all forms of sports activities and recreation that promote health and a quality lifestyle, including mountaineering as a valuable social and cultural practice.

Going to the mountains is coming home.
