Report on the field visit to the parish church of St. Michael the Archangel in Vareš

On 19 February 2026, an inspection of the state of conservation and restoration works on the ongoing maintenance of the facade of the parish church of St. Michael the Archangel in Vareš was carried out, in the presence of representatives of the investor, supervision on behalf of the investor and contractors.

The architectural ensemble, the Parish Church in Vareš, was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the decision of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, adopted at the session held from 7 to 11 October 2003. The national monument is subject to protection and rehabilitation measures established by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments Established under Annex 8 of the General Peace Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The ongoing maintenance works in question include facade works, and are being carried out by the company “Neimari” d.o.o. from Sarajevo.

An inspection of the state of the works revealed that the work on the preparation of the facade (plastering of the existing plaster, rehabilitation of the existing profiles and cleaning) has continued, and that preparations are currently being carried out on the northern facade and the installation of decorative elements around the entrance door on the western facade. It was established that the works are performed in accordance with the project documentation and given guidelines.

After the inspection of the works, a meeting was held where drafts of the facade colour scheme were presented. A proposal with three colours on the facade was accepted (light as the base, darker for highlights and white for profiles). The possible solution of the canopy over the entrance door on the eastern facade was also discussed. It was agreed that the choice of tones would be made by next week so that the contractor could place the samples on the facade.
