A cultural event titled “Neum in Sarajevo” was held last night on the Promenade of Culture in Sarajevo as a part of the manifestation “Days of European Heritage”, which brought together numerous visitors in celebration of the rich heritage of the only BiH town on the coast.
The programme was opened by the moderator Ante Bender, who warmly greeted the audience and introduced a special guest, the Director of the Neum Tourist Board, Nikola Prkačin, who emphasized the importance of connecting the BiH coast and the capital through culture, tourism and shared values.
The guests were also greeted by the Federal Minister of Culture and Sports, Sanja Vlaisavljević, who thanked the “beautiful town, the jewel of the sea, Neum” and invited the audience to enjoy the presentation of Neum’s culture, customs and gastronomic offer.
The Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society “Linđo” Neum, which is celebrating the impressive 80th anniversary of activity this year, presented a diverse folklore programme – from humorous songs accompanied by the fiddle performed by Zlatko Glavinić, to traditional dances of the Neum region such as the braided dance trojanac and the original linđo jump dance accompanied by the sounds of the lijerica. The audience also had the opportunity to enjoy the performance of the male singing group that fostered bećarac, ganga, tradica and other folk customs.
A special charm of the evening was brought by the Neum majorettes from the Dance Club “Paganini” under the leadership of Prof. Renata Rimac. Their choreographies in sailor and ethnic costumes delighted the audience, confirming Neum’s status as a pearl of Bosnian tourism.
An exhibition of wooden sculptures by Zlatko Glavinić, president of the HKUD “Linđo” and a multiple award-winning artist from Babin Do, was also set up on the Promenade of Culture. His handicrafts, from traditional musical instruments to sacred elements, testify to his deep connection with the climate and spirituality of the Neum region.
The second part of the evening featured a concert by the guitar duo Martin Prkačin and Davor Kožul, who performed timeless hits by Oliver Dragojević, Miša Kovač, Gibonni and Dalmatin in an intimate atmosphere, creating the atmosphere of a Mediterranean evening under the Sarajevo sky.
Visitors had the opportunity to taste indigenous dishes and drinks from the Neum region – salted and marinated anchovy fillets, homemade dried figs, first tangerines and red and white wines from the local winery (žilavka and blatina).
The event “Neum in Sarajevo” once again confirmed the power of culture as a bridge between regions, people and identities. It was another memorable evening on the Promenade of Culture.
