On 6 March 2025, a meeting was held in the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports between the visual artist, graphic artist, doctor of communication studies and author of “The Spirit of the Bosnian Carpet”, Amila Smajović, and the representatives of the Ministry – Assistant Minister for Culture, Mirela Milićević Šečić, and Expert Advisor for Cultural and Historical Heritage, Berisa Mehović.

The occasion for the meeting was the publication of Smajović’s first book, “The Spirit of the Bosnian Carpet”, which was published at the end of 2024. The author wanted to donate a copy of the book to the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports.

“It is almost impossible to preserving the Bosnian carpet in woven form, but preserving the spirit of the Bosnian carpet in modern design and art is certainly a great challenge and, I dare say, the only way to do so. The book The Spirit of the Bosnian Carpet can really help young artists and designers to understand the ways of its correct interpretation. In addition to the fact that the book is of a scientific nature and represents actually a research, it also has an educational character. I believe that we have very talented creative people who will continue where I left and who will bring Bosnian carpets closer to modern people in a modern and acceptable way,” the author stated.

Smajović emphasized her willingness to nominate the Bosnian carpet, as a traditional element, to the Preliminary List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, kept by the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports.
