International Puppetry Day – 21 March

Puppetry is an art that gives life to the inanimate,

and thus reminds us that imagination is the most vibrant force of humanity.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports joins in marking the International Puppetry Day, which is celebrated every year on March 21st and is organized by the International Puppetry Association (UNIMA). This day is dedicated to the art of puppetry – one of the oldest and most magical theatrical traditions that connects generations, cultures and languages.

Puppetry is an art that combines play and seriousness, tradition and modernity. It opens up space for imagination, encourages dialogue and transmits the values of togetherness. Puppets are voices that speak a universal language and remind us that theater can be as powerful in its simplicity as in its splendor.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports continues to support puppetry as a precious part of cultural heritage and contemporary creativity, recognizing its role in upbringing, education and cultural connection of communities.
