Institute for the Protection of Monuments: Reports on administrative procedures

  1. The Department for Urban Planning, Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo approached the Institute for the Protection of Monuments with a request from ARLI CEMALA from Sarajevo to issue a permit for the installation of a lighted console advertisement on the facade of the building at Ćurčiluk mali 10 Street in Sarajevo.

The object in question belongs to the scope of the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina called Historical Urban Landscape of Sarajevo (“Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, number 1/21 and 10/21), to which the protection measures established by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments are applied.

After an on-site inspection, it was established that the illuminated console advertisement has already been installed in the dimensions and in the manner provided for in the project. 

In accordance with the above, the Institute for the Protection of Monuments agrees with the size and method of hanging the relevant illuminated advertisement on the facade of the building at the specified address.

2. The Institute for the Protection of Monuments was approached by the Federal Ministry of Physical Planning with a request from the Public Institution “Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva” Museum in Jablanica for approval to carry out ongoing maintenance work as part of the project to revitalize the sanitary facilities of the facility within the scope of the Memorial Complex in Jablanica.

The historical site – the memorial complex of the Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva in Jablanica was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in July 2009. Having reviewed the submitted file and the Main Design completed in February 2025, the Institute for the Protection of Monuments concludes that approval can be granted, with the designer’s obligation to implement the Institute’s stated comments during the execution of the works.

The investor is obliged to inform the Institute for the Protection of Monuments about the start of the works so that periodic expert conservation supervision can be carried out, which is the Institute’s legal obligation.

3. The Institute for the Protection of Monuments was approached by the Urban Planning Department of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo with a request to extend the validity of the municipal decision that issued the approval to “RAIFFEISEN BANK” dd from Sarajevo for the installation of two horizontal illuminated advertisements and two cantilever cubes on the facade of a residential and commercial building located on the corner of Štrosmajereva and Ferhadija streets in Sarajevo.

The object in question falls within the scope of the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina entitled Historic Urban Landscape Sarajevo («Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina», No. 1/21 and 10/21), to which protection measures established by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments apply.

Having reviewed the submitted file and the Master Project for the Installation of Advertisements for Raiffeisen Bank, prepared in September 2013, the Institute for the Protection of Monuments concluded that the advertisements were installed in such a way that their size and materialization did not violate the aspect of the protection of cultural and historical heritage and that approval can be issued.

4. The Bosniak Institute informed the Institute for the Protection of Monuments about the planned adaptation and interior design of the apartment on the first floor at 12 Ferhadija Street in Sarajevo.

The object in question belongs to the scope of the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina called the Historic Urban Landscape of Sarajevo (“Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, number 1/21 and 10/21), which is subject to the protection measures established by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments.

Upon inspection of the submitted documentation, it was established that these were only the ongoing maintenance works related to works in the interior of the mentioned residential space, and the Institute agreed with the proposed works, which include: preparatory, masonry, waterproofing, carpentry, sub-laying, ceramic, locksmith and painting works.
