Institute for the Monuments’ Protection: Practical Work of Students of the Faculty of Architecture in Sarajevo

The implementation of the Agreement on Professional and Scientific Cooperation between the Faculty of Architecture in Sarajevo and the Institute for the Monuments’ Protection at the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports began during the academic year 2024/2025, as part of an elective course in the second year of the second cycle of studies, entitled Architectural Interventions on Buildings and Ensembles of Built Heritage, led by Prof. Dr. Aida Idrizbegović-Zgonić.

Cooperation with the Institute was carried out through practical classes and fieldwork, with expert guidance provided by Azra Tunović and Robert Stergar, specialists from the Institute for the Monuments’ Protection.

The collaboration continued in the academic year 2025/2026, focusing on documenting entrance doors from the Austro-Hungarian period, with the aim of developing awareness and recognition of conservation possibilities, as well as the value of preserving original design. During the course exercises, students will enhance their skills and acquire practical knowledge of conservation and restoration methods. The exercises include: recording the current condition with damages, proposing interventions and conservation-restoration measures, along with a preliminary bill of quantities. The objects of study are entrance doors on Austro-Hungarian buildings located in Skenderija Street, Mula Mustafe Bašeskije Street, and Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street.
