Institute for the Monuments’ Protection: Activities in the period from 10 to 14 November 2025

10 November 2025 – Luladžina Street No. 6, Sarajevo

The Institute for the Monuments’ Protection received a request by the Department for Urban Planning, Spatial Planning, and Environmental Protection of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo for issuing an approval for installing a façade on the building located at Luladžina Street No. 6.

Upon review of the submitted documentation and on-site inspection, it was established that the building was part of the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina entitled Historic Urban Landscape of Sarajevo, subject to protection measures defined by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments, established under Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Based on the documentation and inspection, the Institute is of the opinion that the installation of the façade may be approved in accordance with the technical conditions defined by the municipal department.

This expert opinion refers to the aspect of cultural-historical heritage and is valid until the expiration of the deadline set by the Municipality or until the adoption of the Regulation with guidelines for the installation of advertisements in the Historic Urban Landscape of Sarajevo. The investor is obliged to settle all contractual obligations with the competent department of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo.

11 November 2025 – Sime Milutinovića Sarajlije Street No. 9, Sarajevo

The Institute for the Monuments’ Protection received a request by the Department for Urban Planning, Spatial Planning, and Environmental Protection of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo for issuing an approval for installing an illuminated projecting sign on the façade of the building at Sime Milutinovića Sarajlije Street No. 9.

Upon review of the submitted documentation and on-site inspection, it was established that the building was a part of the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina entitled Historic Urban Landscape of Sarajevo, subject to protection measures defined by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments, established under Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Based on the documentation and inspection, the Institute is of the opinion that the installation of one illuminated projecting sign may be approved, in accordance with the submitted documentation.

11 November 2025 – Sagrdžije Street No. 5, Sarajevo

The Institute for the Monuments’ Protection received a request by the Department for Urban Planning, Spatial Planning, and Environmental Protection of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo for issuing an approval for installing an illuminated projecting sign and an illuminated horizontal sign on the façade of the building at Sagrdžije Street No. 5.

Upon review of the submitted documentation and on-site inspection, it was established that the building was a part of the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina entitled Historic Urban Landscape of Sarajevo, subject to protection measures defined by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments, established under Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Based on the documentation and inspection, the Institute is of the opinion that the installation of one illuminated projecting sign may be approved, in accordance with the submitted documentation. Since the horizontal illuminated sign has already been installed, the Institute is of the opinion that its installation may be tolerated for the next one-year period. For any future request to install a horizontal illuminated sign, a new project must be prepared, ensuring that the sign is positioned at the level of the building’s portal rather than at the eaves.

This expert opinion refers to the aspect of cultural-historical heritage and is valid until the expiration of the deadline set by the Municipality or until the adoption of the Regulation with guidelines for the installation of advertisements in the Historic Urban Landscape of Sarajevo. The investor is obliged to settle all contractual obligations with the competent department of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo.

13 November 2025 – Sagrdžije Street No. 75, Sarajevo

The Institute for the Protection of Monuments received a request by the Department of Common Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton for professional assistance and supervision of maintenance works on the building known as the House of Alija Džerzelez, located at Sagrdžije Street No. 75.

Upon review of the submitted documentation and on-site inspection, it was established that the architectural ensemble known as the House of Alija Džerzelez had been declared a national monument by the Decision of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments on 31 August 2005, and was subject to protection measures defined by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission, established under Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The user of the property, Mearif Foundation, is obliged to engage a designer certified for works on national monuments to prepare a maintenance project. The project must include, at minimum, photo documentation and a bill of quantities, and must be submitted to the Institute for expert review.

Upon approval of the project, the Institute will carry out professional supervision of the works, as required by law.
