In the eve of 28 September – International Day for Universal Access to Information

Every year, the International Day for Universal Access to Information is celebrated on 28 September. This day reminds us of the importance of transparency and accountability of governments towards citizens.

The idea is that public institutions disclose all information of public importance using the advantages of modern technology, instead of citizens constantly submitting requests for access to information, thus contributing to the information of interested parties about work in the public interest.

Freedom of access to information in Bosnia and Herzegovina is regulated by the Act on Freedom of Access to Information, which exists at the state and entity levels.

In accordance with the Act and its commitment, the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports strives to report on the work of the Ministry as transparently as possible, and all significant information about the daily activities of this institution and documents are published on the website of the Ministry.

The Ministry also publishes on its website quarterly reports on acting as per requests for freedom of access to information.

The right to access information is considered one of the fundamental human rights in all democratic countries and is guaranteed by all relevant international documents that prescribe basic human rights.
