In honour of women who protect the land and lives: 15 October – International Day of Rural Women

“Rural women – silent heroes who feed the world with their hands.”

Today, 15 October, the International Day of Rural Women is celebrated – the day dedicated to the ladies who silently, and often invisibly, form the foundation of rural communities around the world.

Rural women are the pillars of the family, bearers of tradition, but also drivers of changes. They rise before the sun, take care of the household, raise children, cultivate the land and nurture life – in the broadest possible sense. Despite this, their work is often not valued, and their needs and voices are ignored, even though in many rural areas it is women who ensure the stability of the family and the survival of the local community.

The International Day of Rural Women is an important day to highlight the importance of their contribution to the world, but also to call on all who can to empower women in rural areas.

Therefore, today, and every day, let us say thank you to the women who protect the land, family, culture and community.

May their efforts never be invisible, for in their hands there are traces of work and warmth. In them grow life, love and the future.
