The Institute for Monuments’ Protection has received a request for approval of ongoing maintenance works of the “Šipad” building in Sarajevo at 13 Maršala Tita Street from the design company “URBING” d.o.o. Sarajevo, along with which the complete “Project of ongoing maintenance and adaptation of the Šipad facility in Sarajevo” from September 2025 was submitted.
The subject object is located within the boundaries of the national monument “Historical Urban Landscape Sarajevo” (Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina, no. 1/21 and 10/21) to which protection measures established by the Act on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments, established under Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, are applicable.
After reviewing the submitted documentation and provisions of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments and after visiting the location, the following was determined:
- The project contains the works description, a detailed estimate and estimate of the works with all graphic attachments.
- All works specified in the project documentation are ongoing maintenance works.
- The works are related to the change and adaptation of the cover of the main building and the annex, the rehabilitation and adaptation of the facade, change of external and internal joinery, adaptation of the interior and change of horizontal and vertical gutters.
The experts of the Institute for Monuments Protection are of the opinion that all works, technology and materialization are acceptable from the point of view of the protection of national monuments. The planned works will not endanger the current appearance of the national monument, so that the request can be approved.
The investor is obliged to inform the Institute about the start of the works in order to carry out timely and legally required professional supervision.

The Institute for the Protection of Monuments was approached by the Turkish Radio Television – Representative Office in BiH with a request for approval for ongoing maintenance work on the business premises – replacement, or rather installation of new entrance doors on the business premises located at 2/1 Fra Grge Martića Street in Sarajevo.
The object in question is located at 2/1 Fra Grge Martića Street and falls within the scope of the national monument of BiH entitled Historic Urban Landscape Sarajevo («Official Gazette of BiH», No. 1/21 and 10/21) to which protection measures established by the Act on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments, established under Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina («Official Gazette of the Federation of BiH», No. 2/02, 8/02, 27/02, 6/04 and 51/07) apply.
Having reviewed the submitted file and having inspected the site, the experts of the Institute for Monuments’ Protection conclude that protective roller doors have already been installed. Given that the existing wooden entrance door’s dimensions and appearance correspond to the time when the building was built, it was determined that it should be kept, possibly refreshed by painting with all necessary preliminary work, without the possibility of replacing it with a security door.
In accordance with the above, the Institute considers that consent cannot be given to replace the entrance door.
The applicant is suggested to possibly replace the existing roller shutter door (of a mounting-dismounting nature) with a higher quality mounting-dismounting roller shutter door.

The Institute for the Protection of Monuments was approached by the Director of the “Museum of Sarajevo”, Indira Kučuk-Sorguč, with a request to issue a consent for the preparation of a study on the energy insulation of Svrza’s House, located at 8 Glođina Street in Sarajevo.
The subject building, Svrza’s House, is under protection on two grounds, namely pursuant to the Decision of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments from 2004, by which the residential architectural ensemble – Svrza’s House in Sarajevo was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and pursuant to the decision of the Commission from 2021, because the subject building is located within the boundaries of the national monument “Historic Urban Landscape of Sarajevo”.
At the request of the Institute, the documentation “Detailed Energy Report” was submitted, which was prepared by the certified company Euroing d.o.o. from Bihać in July 2025. After reviewing the documentation, the Institute concludes that the expert team has meticulously approached the preparation of the energy report / survey / of the facility with a clearly defined insight into the existing energy condition of the facility. Based on all the collected data, the installation of carbon heating – wall installation was proposed. From the study, it can be concluded that this is a modern electric heating system that uses heating strips or foils that are directly mounted on the wall surface.
Given that the facility in question is under the protection regime of cultural and historical heritage, the Institute for Protection considers the technical solution offered above for the Svrzina House facility unacceptable because gluing, or attaching, ultra-thin carbon strips and covering them with a putty will endanger the walls of the facility.
The above intervention is not in accordance with conservation recommendations and, according to the expert team of the Institute for Monuments’ Protection will jeopardize the historical value and authenticity of the building.
In accordance with the above, it has been decided that consent cannot be given for the preparation of a study on the energy insulation of the national monument Svrza’s House in Sarajevo.

The expert team of the Institute for Monuments’ Protection carried out expert conservation supervision of the renovation work on the facade of the National Monument JU Secondary School of Agriculture, Nutrition, Veterinary Medicine and Service Activities at 55 Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street in Sarajevo
In addition to the Institute’s professional team, the contractor is also involved – the construction company Neimari from Sarajevo. The investors are the City of Sarajevo and the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton, while IPSA from Sarajevo is responsible for daily supervision.
The contractor is currently engaged in repairing damage to the bossage (imitation of stone cladding) on the western facade of the building. On the remaining three facades, the bossage was reconstructed and painted in the first hand.
The Institute insisted that, as part of these works, all roof repairs related to sheet metal work should be carried out in addition to the scaffolding already installed on the building. As a result, the Director of the School decided that the School would finance the roof repair works with its own funds.
All participants involved in this project are satisfied with this decision because the roof repair works will also technically solve the problem of water drainage from the roof and enable the facade repair works to last as long as possible.
The works are being carried out with satisfactory quality from the aspect of cultural heritage protection. The completion date of the works is planned for the end of September.
