6 April – International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play.

Sport, as a game or competition and as a universal language that connects people, breaks down barriers and builds trust, has the power to change the world. Every year, 6 April, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is celebrated. This day is an opportunity to remind ourselves of the role of sport in strengthening social bonds, promoting solidarity and respect, and contributing to sustainable development and peace.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports joins this global celebration, emphasizing that sport is not a privilege but a right. It allows people to show leadership, take responsibility and contribute to the community. Through sport, the values of cooperation, discipline and respect are developed, which are the foundation of an inclusive and just society.

This year’s theme “Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers” reminds us that sport must be accessible to everyone – regardless of age, gender or race. Equal opportunities to play sports contribute to greater social inclusion and progress, and thus to the strengthening of unity in our country.

The global campaign, which is being carried out this year on the occasion of the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace called the “white card”, invites citizens around the world to raise the white card as a symbol of support for peace and inclusion. This simple gesture reminds us that in addition to being a physical activity, sport is also a powerful tool for overcoming conflicts, strengthening unity and opening the door to a better society.

The Ministry will continue to support initiatives that promote equality, inclusion and accessibility of sports content.
