15 March – World Speech Day

Since 2016, World Speech Day has been celebrated on 15 March with the aim of promoting the art of public speaking and the power of the spoken word. Speech is one of the oldest forms of human expression – a means of shaping ideas, conveying messages and fostering unity. From ancient orators to modern leaders, speech has always been key to inspiring people, leading societies and building trust.

This day reminds us of the importance of speech as a public performance that requires clarity, responsibility and respect for listeners. A well-formed speech can open a space for dialogue, encourage change and empower a community. It is not just a series of words, but an act of creating connection and understanding.

By marking World Speech Day, the Ministry highlights the value of the rhetorical tradition and its role in modern society. Speech is a powerful instrument that conveys vision, expresses identity and builds a culture of public life. Therefore, nurturing it means investing in a future in which the word remains the foundation of democracy, inspiration and human dignity.
