Vejsil Ćurčić Memorial Room and the “Archaeological Photo Traces” Exhibition Opened

The exhibition features photographs of archaeological research and monuments documented by Vejsil Ćurčić, the first graduate archaeologist from Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The photographs documented by Ćurčić were taken between 1894 and World War II. The earliest photographs of necropolises, such as the Radimlja necropolis near Stolac, and aerial photographs taken during the 1920s, are also on display. The Vejsil Ćurčić Memorial Room has also been opened, featuring a workbench with the tools he used, family photographs, manuscripts from his personal legacy, and memoirs.

The opening of this space pays tribute to the pioneer of archaeology in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a researcher who, with his work, dedication, and vision, left an indelible mark on the preservation and understanding of our cultural heritage. The memorial room and the exhibition bear witness to the rich legacy of Vejsil Ćurčić and represent a valuable contribution to the collective identity of our city and country.

The opening of the Vejsil Ćurčić Memorial Room and the exhibition “Archaeological Photo Traces” in front of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Institute for the Protection of Monuments was attended by employees of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments.
