Institute for the Monuments’ Protection: Report on the professional conservation supervision of the works on the facade of the parish church of St. Michael the Archangel in Vareš

On 22 May 2026, an inspection was carried out of the state of the conservation and restoration works on the ongoing maintenance of the facade of the parish church of St. Michael the Archangel in Vareš. The inspection was carried out in the presence of representatives of the investor, supervision on behalf of the investor and the contractor.

An inspection of the state of the conservation and restoration works concluded that the works on the eastern and northern facades were fully completed. Works on the western facade are currently being carried out. Preparatory works on this facade are nearing completion, the removal of the existing plaster has been completed, flat surfaces have been plastered, and the rehabilitation of the existing profiles is in progress.

It was determined that the works are being carried out with quality, in accordance with the project documentation and the given guidelines and the planned dynamics.

After the completion of the work on the western facade, work will begin on the most complex facade, the main southern facade, which has the most decorative elements.

Professional conservation supervision of the works on behalf of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments is carried out by MA Lamija Abdijević, B.A.Arch. and MA Dolores Janko, B.A.Arch., expert advisors for architectural and archaeological heritage.
