On 29 April 2026, the Institute for the Protection of Monuments conducted an expert inspection of the mosque in Kraljeva Sutjeska, at the request of the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Kakanj. The Institute’s expert team consisted of Azer Aličić, B.A., and Dženana Šaran, B.A., and the inspection was carried out in the company of representatives of the Islamic Community of Kakanj, the imam of the mosque in Kraljeva Sutjeska, and representatives of the Mosque Board.

After inspecting the building and determining the scope and quality of the work carried out, for which the Institute had previously given its approval (repair of the perimeter wall, renovation of the fountain, installation of air conditioning, repair of the woodwork on the exterior of the mosque), it was determined that the work was carried out correctly and in accordance with the approval, instructions, and suggestions of the Institute.

It was determined that the mosque building is being well cared for by the competent authorities of the Islamic Community of Kakanj and Kraljeva Sutjeska.

Further interventions on the building were determined, with the Institute insisting on the completion of the perimeter wall, regulation of the hydrant network around the building, and especially on the protection of parts of the building’s interior that were discovered in earlier stages of reconstruction and represent extremely valuable and rare artifacts of in situ wall painting. The Institute’s proposal is to protect the entire mihrab area with non-reflective stained glass, thus preventing possible damage to the original parts of the plaster and calligraphy by the increasing number of visitors and users of the building. In this context, the Institute will develop a program task, so that the competent authorities from the Islamic Community of Kakanj can adequately and timely prepare the project documentation, secure funds and implement the agreed upon.
