9 May – Europe Day

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports joins in marking Europe Day, which is celebrated every year on 9 May in memory of the Schuman Declaration of 1950 – a historic moment that marked the beginning of the European project of peace and cooperation.

This year, Europe Day brings a reminder of the values that unite European peoples: unity, solidarity and democratic ideals. Special emphasis is placed on strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of the European Union, supporting young people through educational programs and working together on security, climate policies and digital transformation.

Europe Day 2026 also marks the 40th anniversary of the accession of Portugal and Spain to the European Union, as well as 40 years since the first official celebration of Europe Day and the selection of the flag and anthem of the European Union.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports expresses its support for all initiatives that promote European values and connect citizens through culture and sport, reminding us that Europe is strongest when it acts as a community.
