On August 19, 2026, Sarajevo as a contractor and the City of Sarajevo as an investor inspected the conservation and restoration works on the “Eternal Fire” monument in Sarajevo, which were carried out on the basis of project documentation and the expert opinion of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments.
It was established that the conservation and restoration works on the part of the facade with the niche and on the cornice with the fire were carried out for the most part in accordance with the project documentation and regulations and standards for the protection of objects of cultural and historical heritage.
It was also determined that the work on the cracks in the niche, several surface ones in the lower zone and one horizontal one in the upper zone, were not carried out in an adequate way, and the cracks remained visible and no major difference was noticeable compared to the state before the work began. Defects were also noticed on the wreath with the fire deviating from the center, and the appropriate matte color was not applied, but a shiny dark green color.
The contractor is obliged to remove the observed defects within 10 days.
