The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports extends its sincere congratulations to the writer Semezdin Mehmedinović on being awarded the annual prize of the Writers’ Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina for his book Mali roman o tišini (A Small Novel About Silence) (Buybook, 2025).
This recognition serves as a testament to the exceptional literary body of work of Semezdin Mehmedinović, whose authentic literary voice, subtlety, and profound reflections on the human condition and the world hold a distinct place in contemporary Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature.
Through its title and literary sensibility, the book Mali roman o tišini draws attention to the significance of that which often remains unspoken—yet which, within the realm of literature, finds a space for understanding, re-examination, and dialogue. It is precisely this capacity—to use the written word to open a space for deeper reflection on the human being, their memories, experiences, and inner worlds—that highlights the value of a body of work which transcends the boundaries of the individual to become part of a broader cultural and social experience.
The presentation of this award further underscores the importance of literature that, through its artistic achievements, enriches our cultural heritage, fosters dialogue, and creates a space for contemplating universal human experiences.
Along with our sincere congratulations on this significant honor, we wish Semezdin Mehmedinović much continued literary inspiration and many future creative accomplishments.
