27 October – World Audiovisual Heritage Day

To connect a person with the whole world – that is the meaning of the film.
Andrei Tarkovsky

World Audiovisual Heritage Day is celebrated on October 27, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of preserving film, television and radio material, as well as other audiovisual records that represent a valuable part of cultural heritage and collective memory.

Audiovisual records preserve testimonies of time, people, events, customs, art and social changes. Films, documentaries, television and radio programs, music recordings and other content enable us to get to know the past, understand our own cultural identity and pass on knowledge and experiences to future generations.

Preservation of audiovisual heritage is an important task of cultural institutions, archives, libraries, museums and other institutions dealing with the collection, protection, digitization and availability of cultural content. A special challenge is the deterioration of old film and sound carriers, technological obsolescence of equipment and the need for systematic preservation of digital records.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has a rich audiovisual heritage that testifies to its historical development, cultural diversity, artistic creativity and the daily life of its citizens. Protecting this material means preserving authentic testimonies of the past and making it possible for them to remain accessible to researchers, artists, educational institutions and the general public.

By preserving audiovisual heritage, we preserve the voices, images, and stories that connect the past, the present, and the future.
