The Institute for the Protection of Monuments was contacted by the Cantonal Institute for the Protection of Cultural-Historical Heritage of Sarajevo with a request to address a matter concerning the construction of a new building on Toplik Street in Sarajevo.
The site in question is located within the protected area known as the “Historical Urban Landscape of Sarajevo,” which has been designated a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina by a decision of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
An on-site inspection revealed the following:
• The plot in question is situated in a predominantly residential part of the city, bordered by other plots already occupied by buildings with a maximum height of ground floor plus two stories (G+2);
• The proposed building, measuring 6.00 x 8.00 meters, is designed with a basement, ground floor, and one additional story (B+G+1);
• In terms of its horizontal and vertical dimensions, as well as its architectural expression, the proposed building does not disrupt the existing environment.
It was concluded that a positive professional opinion could be issued, as the planned structure does not have a negative impact on the protected area.
