15 April – World Art Day

The goal of art is not to present the external appearance of things, but their inner meaning.
Aristotle

World Art Day is celebrated on 15 April 15, the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), a versatile artist, scientist and visionary whose creativity left an indelible mark on the world’s cultural heritage. This date was chosen to pay tribute to one of the greatest geniuses of the Renaissance, whose legacy teaches us that art is both an aesthetic experience and a path to knowledge, freedom and understanding.

The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports joins the global celebration of art, as it shapes our identity, preserves heritage and opens space for dialogue between cultures. Art teaches us to look beyond borders, to listen to each other and to find unity in diversity.

This day is an opportunity to remind ourselves that art lives in every color, sound, movement and word, and that it is the basis of cultural life and a bridge between people. We invite all citizens, institutions and artists to commemorate it through exhibitions, concerts, performances and public events, celebrating the diversity of expression and the power of creativity.

In the spirit of Leonardo da Vinci, let us continue to build a society that values beauty, knowledge and freedom of expression – because art is what makes us human and connects us in a common heritage.
