“A Tree in the Middle of the World” Children’s Book Festival Opens in Mostar

On Wednesday, 21 October 2026, the fourth edition of the “A Tree in the Middle of the World” (Stablo nasred svijeta) Children’s Book Festival was ceremoniously opened at the Queen Katarina Kosača Gallery in Mostar, organized by the Public Library of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (Mostar).

Held biennially, this event brings together children, librarians from the region, authors of children’s literature, and all book enthusiasts through a rich and diverse program. Over the course of three days, the festival offers more than 25 free activities for children and their families, including literary encounters, workshops, storytelling sessions, and creative programs. In addition to the extensive offerings for the youngest, the festival also features a professional program for librarians, underscoring its significant role in the development of the library profession and the promotion of a reading culture within the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by Anita Vlašić, advisor to the Federal Minister of Culture and Sports, who noted that the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports proudly supports the festival, recognizing its vital role in fostering a culture of reading among the youngest generation. She emphasized that books and reading are instrumental in nurturing new generations—individuals who, through their knowledge, creativity, and values, will help build a better society. She also thanked the organizers for their ongoing efforts to enrich the cultural life of Mostar and the wider community.
